As Director of Data Analytics Strategy for HBO’s Consumer Insights & Analytics team, you will gain a deep understanding of HBO’s analytical and data requirements and define our business strategy for data collection, management and governance working in partnership with our Technology and other business stakeholders, such as Marketing, Finance, Global Distribution, Programming, etc. In addition, you will be responsible for setting the technology and service strategy for enterprise analytics and data science. Your strategic plan will be input into the HBO Data Analytics Platform strategic roadmap and the Business Transformation Roadmap which will include business process and organizational change management. In addition, this role will interact and coordinate data strategy with our parent and sister companies, Turner and Warner Brothers.
Manage and grow the HBO Conceptual data model working with Information Technology to implement this vision in practical chunks tied to business use cases.
Advise and assist in data stewardship and governance.
Work with HBO’s Digital Products group to ensure quality data is captured, shared and leveraged by other business units.
Work with HBO’s Global Distribution, Finance, Digital Products Product Operations (Customer Care) and Marketing teams to ensure business processes are in place to collect, share and protect data for the use of enterprise analyses.
Develop and maintain a deep awareness of best practice approaches for data and analytics generally across industries, and more specifically for scenarios in the media industry, to anticipate and create a longer-term vision for HBO’s needs and opportunities
Identify, evaluate and test third-party analytics, big data platforms, technology, data sources and metadata solutions that may fill gaps in HBO’s knowledge or provide competitive advantage to HBO
Manage and grow an effective data strategy and framework for HBO whilst collaborating with technical teams for delivery.
Contribute ‘thought-leadership’ to data, analytic technology and operational processes; facilitate requirements gathering workshops with various stakeholder and vendor groups.
Input into the continuous process of business and data requirements gathering, development of user stories, business cases and input into both Information Technology’s Strategic Roadmap and the Business Transformation Roadmap.
Perform strategic HBO analyses as needed.
BS required; MBA preferred.
A minimum of 10 years’ experience of consulting, big data and strategic analysis for B2B and/or consumer-facing businesses
Strategy and / or big data consulting experience
Knowledge of the cloud, big data lakes, data science and analytics
Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with an open approach to solving multi-dimensional problems.
Experience in one or more of the following environments: consulting, cable/satellite/telco, mobile, media, entertainment or interactive businesses focused on the consumer universe
Knowledge of the current landscape of technical solutions for data environments (both structured and unstructured), solutions for insights/ analytics/ business intelligence, reporting and data visualization, marketing automation, and digital media solutions (personalization, optimization, recommendation engines, content/ asset management solutions)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, to effectively communicate often complex, multi-faceted plans at all levels of the organization.
Excellent interpersonal and client/vendor management skills, including the ability to manage multiple stakeholder groups with often diverse objectives and perspectives.
An intrinsic curiosity and inquisitiveness about evolving solutions.
Process development expertise and data-flow modelling
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a matrixed team oriented environment.
Frequent (at least monthly) travel between New York, LA and Seattle.
