The HBO Technology team is the group responsible for delivering HBO’s award winning content to our subscribers 24/7. Our work enables Game of Thrones, Westworld, and Hollywood’s best movies to be consumed anywhere and everywhere. Within the Technology organization, the Business Systems team, as a part of the Media Technology & Information Services (MTIS) division, is responsible for end-to-end solution delivery, infrastructure management, and client support across applications, platforms and end-user compute environments. This includes delivering business solutions to support the Global Media Supply Chain and path to air systems; evolving the enterprise data and analytics platform in support of HBO’s direct to consumer business; providing 24x7 client support for 3,000+ users globally; and supporting more than 300 applications and a diverse set of tools and platforms across HBO.
The Director of Enterprise Infrastructure is a high-impact operational and strategic leadership role that will support and advance HBO’s 24x7 IT operations. This position will oversee all technical assets and resources in support of HBO’s infrastructure needs, including the server, compute, network engineering, user endpoints, and cloud footprint in support of HBO’s information systems.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
The Director will provide a vision for, and will deliver on, HBO’s next generation infrastructure and will be the primary person responsible for supporting and managing the existing footprint of enterprise infrastructure. This includes leading high-quality infrastructure service delivery, managing infrastructure support response in a complex matrixed, shared-service environment. The scope of the Director includes information systems compute, storage, cloud-hosted systems, and end-user infrastructure across HBO. These solutions will be provided by third parties, including Time Warner EIS, cloud service providers, and in-house systems. This role will proactively identify opportunities to improve HBO’s IT resource efficiency and internal (end user and technology) customer experience, utilization and growth of cloud capabilities and the consolidation/tracking/utilization/efficiency of all infrastructure assets.
Key responsibilities include:
Provide thought leadership for all aspects of HBO’s infrastructure and communicate vision to senior management within and outside of the technology function.
Serve as the key liaison between HBO and all infrastructure service providers (both internal and external) to communicate on HBO’s vision and requirements at all phases of the infrastructure lifecycle.
Lead a team of full-time employees and consultants to execute on program delivery and infrastructure support.
Manage all of HBO’s infrastructure assets including managing the infrastructure budget, asset database, CMDB, and vendor relationships (internal and external).
Design next-generation hosting, compute, storage, network, and end-user infrastructure solutions as part of HBO’s information systems mission and work with infrastructure service providers to take delivery of these solutions.
Partner with production technology teams in MTIS, Digital Production Services, and West Coast production, Business Continuity, and Digital Products to deliver and support critical infrastructure.
Define and manage request catalog for Infrastructure Engineering services. Ensure that catalog items have specific SLAs for delivery and that each catalog item is represented in the technology service management system (ServiceNow).
Partner with Infrastructure operations during systems outages and participate in subsequent follow up and problem management.
WHAT WILL WE NEED FROM YOU?
HBO is looking for a highly skilled individual who has a proven track record of leading enterprise infrastructure teams in a complex, dynamic environment with quality, accountability, and speed.
10 to 12 years of experience in leadership roles designing, delivering and supporting complex full stack infrastructure in support of enterprise information systems using on-prem and cloud-based solutions.
Broad experience at the enterprise level planning, designing, managing and supporting complex distributed systems across both Linux and Windows server environments for both physical and virtualized platforms.
Experience designing and supporting storage infrastructure and related software, including StorNext, SMB and CIFS shares.
Broad experience with cloud hosting solutions, including public and private cloud solution delivery on AWS, VMWare, and other cloud management tools.
Detailed understanding of IP networking and telephony, including cloud PBX, remote access protocols, and next generation SDN and wireless frameworks.
Experience with common information security management frameworks, such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, International Standards Organization (ISO) 2700x, the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology (COBIT) frameworks.
Knowledge of critical infrastructure systems including, data center, network, storage, compute, telephony and collaboration systems (Polycom, Cisco Jabber, etc).
Additional requirements and competencies:
Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience.
10+ years of relevant experience and at least five years of experience in large, cross-functional teams influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, organization design, team leadership and development with experience in leading transformational initiatives.
Ability to build strong relationships with proven skills in effectively influencing across a dynamic matrixed environment.
Demonstrated success managing technical talent, including recruiting, retention, promotion, and performance management for employees at various levels in the technology organization.
Very strong presentation, communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills a must.
Ability to visualize, capture, and describe complex system design and network flows.
Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning and execution skills.
Expertise in budget planning and financial management preferably with showback and/or chargeback models.
Deep understanding of current and emerging technologies and how other enterprises are employing them.
Strong vendor management and partner relation skills.
Ability to drive organizational change and build infrastructure capabilities that effectively optimize operational efficiency and deliver innovative and agile solutions.
